We believe educators, parents and students in K-12 have unique needs that aren’t being met by traditional education software. Edsby is on a mission to improve K-12 teaching and learning around the world with next generation social technologies and industry-leading student data stewardship.

1980s - Partnership forged

Brothers Steve Asbury, Jon Asbury and colleague Scott Welch develop, among other things, Northern Telecom’s bestselling voicemail system Meridian Mail under supervision of John Myers.

1990 - World’s first LMS

Leaving Nortel and forming SoftArc, the Asburys and Welch develop FirstClass, a communication and collaboration system used by millions worldwide and credited as the first Learning Management System (LMS).

1999 - Public listing, acquisition

Former Nortel supervisor John Myers joins as CEO. SoftArc renamed Centrinity, lists on Toronto Stock Exchange. Acquired by OpenText in 2002.

2010 - Edsby born

The Asburys, Welch and Myers form new co. and design what eventually becomes Edsby and Unison, modern systems focused on education leveraging learnings from the K-12 success of FirstClass worldwide.

Delivering on K-12 digital transformation for 30+ years

Edsby is a signatory of the A4L Student Data Privacy Consortium’s U.S. National Data Protection Agreement demonstrating strong student privacy practices. It is a member in good standing of the 1EdTech Consortium (formerly IMS Global). Its products are ISO 27001, Project Unicorn Interoperability and App Defense Alliance CASA Tier 2 certified. It has been evaluated by Common Sense Media’s Privacy Program and assessed by the Australian National Schools Interoperability Program's Safer Technologies 4 Schools (ST4S) initiative.
